Here is a comparison between the newly introduced Canon Powershot SX30IS having fixed lens with high zoom and the Canon 1000D, which is a DSLR camera with inter changeable lens capability. The India price of the SX30 IS is some where around Rs. 28,000 - Rs. 30,000 and for the 1000D its is Rs, 21,000 - Rs. 23000.

(10% larger screen)

Now as you can see the Canon 1000D is far better than the newly introduced Canon SX30 IS, which is a point-and shoot camera that means you have lesser flexibility than 1000D and most importantly the price of 1000D is quite low (around 25% lower) than SX 30 IS. For the last four features where SX 30 is better than 1000D, the most important thing is generally with these camera you hardly take a movie having so many good cheaper handycams available these days and the 2.5 LCD screen is just perfect. In this price range category 1000D looks much more professional than the SX 30 IS, which is just a costly point-and-shoot camera.
