The Indian Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from the British rule in 1947.
Following India's independence, India Gate became the site of the Indian Army's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, known as the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' (The flame of the immortal soldier).
The Prime Minister of India hoists the Indian flag on the ramparts of the historical site, Red Fort, on August 15.
